Inside the Galaxyland Amusement Park at the North side of the mall

Gordie's Review: (18 months old) – The balls were the best!
Cost: $6 for ages 1-3; $9 for ages 4-12 (for play park ONLY). You can also use day passes or tickets.
Supervision: Parents must supervise their children from inside the play area. There is additionally someone manning a locked gate at the front of the play area and often staff wandering through to make sure everything is okay.
Age Range: 1-12 (there is also a maximum height).
Footwear: socks are required for parents and children. Socks are available for purchase for $2.
Surface: Carpet and mats.
Play Area Features: This is a big 4 story, space themed play park it is big enough for parents to go through too. Even my husband (6’3”) was able to go everywhere. There are tube slides, tunnels, stairs, ball pits, rope ladders, bridges and more! There is also a small toddler area with a slide, tunnel and ball pit.
Security Features: There is a locked gate that the attendant has to unlock at the front of the play area. However, it is still possible for kids to sneak out when someone else is leaving so it is still important to know where your kids are.
Additional Kid Friendly Services: Galaxyland Amusement Park; World Water park; Professor Wem’s Mini Golf; Sea Lion’s Rock Show (where the dolphins used to be); Sea Life Caverns (underground aquarium); Ice Palace (Skating); Ed’s Rec Room (Bowling and Pool) and more. The West Edmonton Mall has lots to offer for kids but there is really nothing that’s free. If you are planning a visit, I would recommend checking out their website http://www.wem.ca.
Overall Assessment: Although this indoor playground is not free, it has much more in common with a place like Stir Crazy than a mall play place. We thought that $6 was pretty reasonable for how big it is. It is really big though and could be easy to loose track of your kids if they are small and you are not interested in climbing up with them. Younger children could also end up out of their depth without an adult accompanying them. We had a really good time with Gordie we climbed all over the play area together as a family. Gordie’s favorite part though was finding the escaped balls and putting them back in the ball pits. The atmosphere is a little overwhelming as it in in the middle of the theme park. There are rides whizzing above and lots of lights and noises.
We did not partake in any of the other Galaxyland attractions as Gordie burst into tears when we put the quarters in the Tigger boat when we first got to the mall. We did however, go to the Sea Life Caverns underground aquarium. Gordie really enjoyed being able to touch the sea anemone (you can also touch some other similar sea creatures and sting rays) and it was neat to see the sea turtles, penquins and sharks, but we found it to be a bit small for the $18 it cost us to get in.
The mall itself is obviously quite big, but it can be easy to forget just how big. It was also really busy (it was a Saturday) so you may want to think about bringing a stroller or a harness even if you wouldn’t at a mall like Chinook or Market Mall.
Here is a link to a photo of galaxyland. The play area is at the back with all the tubes and things. The playpark is sunk down from ground level, so you can see it's really quite tall.![]()
